Job Description

POSTED: JANUARY 7, 2019
LOCATION: TORONTO

About the Role

ROSS Intelligence’s (“ROSS”) mission is to democratize the law. We are developing technology powered by Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) that can read, answer and understand legal questions, enabling lawyers to enhance and scale their services to more people faster, and at a lower cost.

To date, ROSS has been featured in, among other places, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Wired, The Economist, The Financial Times, Techcrunch, The New Scientist, the Globe and Mail, and The Atlantic. In 2017, Forbes named our founders as three of their 30 Under 30. We have also been recognized by Bloomberg for pioneering AI in the legal industry and by CBInsights as one of the top 100 AI companies in the world.

We are a fast growing company with offices in Toronto and San Francisco, with over $14 Million in funding to date, backed by, among others, Y-Combinator, iNovia Capital, Comcast Ventures, and Real Ventures.

As a Product Designer, you will play a key role in our product development process end-to-end from brainstorming to interacting with users to developing features and products for release, with a focus on user experience. You will work on a wide spectrum of design. You’ll identify new problems and opportunities to create impactful experiences. Your innovative and collaborative skills will be leveraged to create compelling features for our end users.

We care about growing creative, collaborative people, and strong, diverse, capable teams. You will join a team that has an established track record of delivering impactful products that customers love.

ROSS offers a unique opportunity to build groundbreaking software solutions in an industry finally eager and ready to adopt technology in a meaningful and innovative way. We care deeply about leveraging technology to make the law more accessible to a wider community, and hope you share our commitment.

Day to Day:

  • Translate user goals, problems and behaviours into intuitive and creative interaction and design solutions.
  • Create diagrams, wireframes, and mockups rapidly, and at the right level of fidelity to achieve our product goals.
  • Identify, plan, and conduct evaluative user research.
  • Facilitate consistency in cross-product experiences by adhering to current design systems, standards and patterns.
  • Ensure design quality by giving and soliciting constructive feedback from peers and team members.

You’ll need to have:

  • – A strong portfolio.
  • – Proficiency in Figma, Sketch or Illustrator.
  • – 6+ years design experience in a successful software product team.
  • – Ability to work on your own without guidance from other designers for periods of time.
  • – Urgency in your pace of work without loss of quality.
  • – Ability to iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently.
  • – A positive attitude towards constructive criticism and the ability to speak up for your work when you believe in it’s merit.
  • – Understanding and curiosity into user and business goals to complement and explain your design decisions.
  • – Ability to effectively pick up nuances of user behaviour and extrapolate user trends from user data and user testing.
  • – Experience with running user testing and generative research sessions on their own.
  • – Ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and stakeholders.

It would be excellent if you had:

  • Interest in the design community, understanding the industry’s latest trends and technologies and a good network of other local and international designers.
  • Ability to design pixel perfect visuals like motion graphics, icons and illustrations at agency level and pace.
  • Coding experience and familiarity with front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript, React).
  • Experience with complex prototyping tools like Framer or Haiku.
  • Agency, large consultancy, or product company background a plus

Your application:
Qualified candidates are asked to submit their application with a link to their portfolio by e-mail to jobs@rossintelligence.com. No cover letters are required. References would be a plus. Please indicate the position you are applying for in your subject line (“Product Designer”). We appreciate hearing from all qualified candidates, however, only those applicants whose background and experience match our requirements will be contacted.
