Legal Innovation Bootcamp

The Legal Innovation Bootcamp is designed to introduce you to the impact of technology and innovation in the legal domain. Participants in the program have an exclusive opportunity to network with diverse mindsets, explore innovation concepts & principles, and apply newly learned skills to develop potential solutions.

The program will run from October 2019 to March 2020 with a total of 6 sessions. Throughout the bootcamp students will explore the legal industry and emerging trends transforming the sector, while also being exposed to entrepreneurial skills such as design thinking, pitching and  prototyping in an experiential learning environment.

This program is limited to 45 participants.

Program Launch + Discovery

Monday, October 28th 2019 | 3pm – 6pm | SLC Sandbox

Introduction to the bootcamp and this year’s innovation challenge. The launch will feature a LIZ entrepreneur highlighting their legal tech startup journey. The discovery will include defining the challenge and creating a problem-focus using lean and design thinking methodologies.

Ideation + Validation

Monday, November 4th 2019 | 3pm – 6pm | SLC Sandbox

Conceptualizing solutions with a problem-solution fit using lean and design thinking methodologies.


Monday, November 11th 2019 | 3pm – 6pm | SLC Sandbox

Learn how to bring ideas into life by prototyping a minimum viable product.


Monday, November 18th 2019 | 3pm – 6pm | Osler

Bootcamp participants will join a guided tour of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. This will be an opportunity to learn aboutthe innovative practices being used by one of Canada’s leading law firms.

Pitch 101

Monday, January 20th 2019 | 3pm – 6pm | SLC Sandbox

Develop an effective pitch and learn how to elevate your presentation skills.


Monday, March 2nd 2019 | 3pm – 6pm | The Legal Innovation Zone

Pitch your innovative idea to a panel of judges.

Coaching sessions with LIZ mentors will be available throughout the program.

How much does it cost?

The Legal Innovation Bootcamp is FREE.

Do I have to be interested in law?

No. The Legal Innovation Bootcamp is open to students from all Ryerson faculties and programs. In fact, we encourage diverse perspectives!
Although there is a legal focus, this is a great opportunity for all students interested to dive into the world of innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.

What if I have class or can't make it?

Clear your calendar – we gave you the heads up! The Bootcamp is an exclusive program and full commitment is expected. In case of conflict, please contact at your earliest convenience.

Can I join again this year if i participated last year?

The Legal Innovation Bootcamp is aimed towards broadening the horizons of new participants. Unfortunately, spots for the Bootcamp are only open to new applicants.

Can my friends from other schools join?

The Legal Innovation Bootcamp is currently only open to current Ryerson students.

Do I have to commit for the full Bootcamp?

Yes, you do. This is an exclusive program catered to only 45 qualified Ryerson students. Before signing up, make sure you are ready for the commitment. The program commences in October 2018 and runs until March 2019. Heads Up – there are no activities planned for December!

Should I bring my own laptop?

YES! All the workshops are BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).

Will I receive a certificate after completion of the camp?

All participants that have successfully completed the program will receive a Legal Innovation Bootcamp Certificate. Remember, it is a great portfolio builder!
